Update: In looking for pictures of Dory Cove, I discovered the restaurant's website, only, to find, it burned down in 2006! OH NOOO! No one was hurt, thank goodness. BUT... the same family opened another restaurant in 2007 on the south end of Lincoln City on the highway, called Captain Ron's Seafood with the old menu from Dory Cove. I will go and report, next visit. ____________________ Our family's favorite place to go, is the Oregon Coast. Our family hangout city is Lincoln City. I think I know every restaurant, shop and movie theatre there and up and down the coast, after some 30 years of vacationing there. That many years ago, after a recommendation from a local, my parents discovered Dory Cove and took me, and then of course, I kept going. This is the old fashioned kind of place, your parents love, with leatherette booths and career waitresses. if you sit in the right place (near the back of the restaurant, at the window booths), you have a peek of the ocean. We have always gone for the chowda, and its good, with a pat of butter on top. But the seafood dishes are decent, and don't miss the homemade almond joy pie. Great spot and affordable. There always used to be a line at dinner time, it goes fast.

The parking lot does seem to be full, often. i can only think it's because the food is inexpensive. It *is* inexpensive, but poor quality.

We just ate here tonight. We should have went somewhere else. My 4 year old summed it up best when he asked, "why is everything covered in this stuff?". The stuff he was referring to was breading. Everything on the menu was either breaded or sautéed. No broiling, steaming, baking. I actually ordered the fried crab. Thought it would be cool, like japanese fried crab, not really. I ended up peeling off the breading. The crab was quite sweet when you got that breading off. Crab cocktail was not breaded and looked great. But this was the only place in town with fresh crab that I could find. Weird. I actually called 4 different restaurants. By the way the fish shop in the back looked great.

Never been much of a seafood fan but wow! Chowder that came with my surf and turf was nice and creamy with chunks of clam. Steak was expertly cooked to an actual red rare. Halibut was flaky an tasty. If I ever come this way again will stop in for sure. PS Place was full of locals.

I've been going to Dory Cove since I was a wee kid. In the past I've enjoyed their entrees but, honestly I feel that the prices are a bit high on certain foods for what you get. The CHOWDER though, is my favorite! Go here, get the bowl of chowder and garlic bread. Eat and enjoy! It is pure creamy, delish and filled with clams. No stop on the coast is complete without coming here.

I give it 5 stars. The service and food was delicous. The coffee wasn't strong like I asked. My Salmon was cooked perfect. My husband order a crab cocktail but he was ready to steel my salmon. It was great. The chowder is very amazing. Creamy and big chunks of clam they are not afraid in serving. To top everything off the food is delicous!!! Mmmmmm.

Chowder was good, but the entrees were lack luster. Over priced for the quality. But very nice staff and good customer service.

Not only was the seafood and chowder very tasty, the filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. I would also like to take a moment to mention the AMAZING customer service from the wait staff - very accommodating, efficient and personable!

My wife and I were craving some chowder and fish & chips. We have driven past this location for a few years while going to the 'other' chowder place. We decided to give it a try. Best decision we could have made. It was after lunch time and it was not that busy. We were immediately seated and the service was extremely friendly and personable. We ordered our Halibut fish &chips and it came with chowder, bread and one side. The beer batter on the halibut was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, though not too thick like some places do it. The chowder was very thick, creamy and rich. A decent amount of clams and thankfully none were sandy. The flavor was great and the yummy sounds were abound. My fish & chips came with fried clams and they were deep fried a little darker than I like. Almost a little bitter or burnt a little. I still ate them. Overall we were stuffed and satisfied with our meal. We are planning on going there again and already recommended it to family. Our new chowder spot.

Delicious. Came here for dinner on our first night in Lincoln City. The owner waited on us. The menu is varied but I had to try the chowder as they claim to be the best on the Oregon coast. I cannot deny, it was incredibly creamy, while my mom raved about the generous portions of clams! We enjoyed the chowder so much we returned the following day for lunch.

OK, so the chowder is still PHENOMENOL!!! That, in and of itself, is reason to come, for now. My Breaded Halibut dinner was way less than acceptable, especially considering the price of $25.95. The batter was NOT crisp and the halibut was almost a rubbery texture. I swear, you could actually bend the stuff. The parsleyed red potatoes were good, but the star of the meal, the halibut, eeehhhhkkkkkk. It pains me to say this, but the new owners may be well on their way to ruining a once fine restaurant. I understand the economics of running a business and having to raise prices, but, still, as owners, you MUST continually strive to serve products and servises comensurate with those prices. On this count I'm afraid, The Dory Cove's new owners failed miserably. Unless that changes, and soon, not even the great chowder will keep the customers coming back. Too bad, too.

Today was my first visit -- and I stopped for a quick breakfast about 9:30am. First -- the place is way too warm inside. While I can see that this might be a good thing in mid winter -- it's now spring, and I was uncomfortable at mid-morning. I can only imagine what it must be like during lunch in midsummer. I commented on the heat and the waitress said it was *always* warm there. She opened a window a couple of inches, and by the time I left, they had the door propped open as well. It should also be noted that the first smell when I walked in was not coffee or bacon, or other smells of cooking goodies -- but the wafting aroma of bleach. Which sorta begs a whole handful of questions -- somebody here needs to rethink how they manage their facility. You basically have to walk through their open kitchen to get to the back dining room. If the bleach smell is stronger than the food smells -- well. Figure it out. The quickie breakfast special at Dory's is 2 eggs, 2 bacon, and 2 hotcakes. I got my eggs over medium -- cooked perfectly, but mysteriously missing any seasoning -- which was easily fixed by a few shakes of salt, pepper and Tabasco from the table. The 2 strips of thick bacon were over-cooked, but not burned -- and crumbled to powder when chewed Most disappointing were the pancakes -- easily 9" in diameter and fairly thick, also turned out to be rubbery and nearly tasteless. They LOOKED perfect --- evenly browned and fluffy -- but they tasted as though they, too, were without salt, but also without buttermilk or any other flavorful ingredient. Perhaps prepared earlier and reheated -- or just batter that was over-mixed and so the gluten had turned to rubber cement. As Dory's Cove is a long-standing fixture of Lincoln City -- I was hoping its staying power was due to some really top-flight food. And it may be that they do better with the fish n' chips, salmon, and chowder -type fare. But for a fast $4 breakfast special, McDonald's is a better bet.

Best clam chowder ever. EVER! That's why we go. We also leave with 2 quarts to eat the next day. We don't go for the atmosphere or ambiance; the chowder is the star of the show. They also have great salads, and their fish & chips is good.

Delicious chowder! I've loved Mo's chowder since I was a kid but I found a new favorite at Dory's Cove. The steamed clams are the bomb, too.

Solid four stars. All of us ordered Halibut fish and chips, and all of us were satisfied. Portions were generous - we ate our fill and stil had leftovers to schlep home with us. Thought the fries were especially notable. Waitress was pleasant and patient with our special requests. Would definitely recommend and we'll be back for more next time we're down at the coast.

Best chowder I've ever had. Makes mo's taste like potato soup. Daniel the waiter was freaking awesome and took top notch care of our table, for that the wife left a generous tip. We will come here whenever we are in the area! Again best chowder you will ever have. I had to downgrade one star sorry only because I want to reserve the five for the very best of the best. This place is still awesome!

My husband and I ate at Dory's while visiting my sister in Lincoln City. I had suggested we go to Mo's for clam chowder and she said we absolutely had to try Dory's! I was reluctant because we had always gone to Mo's whenever went to the coast but I sure am glad she made us try this place. We had dinner there one night and breakfast the next morning. Our food was cooked to perfection, the calamari was the most tender calamari i have ever eaten. Daniel, the owners son, was our server. He took such great care of us. It was a tasty and fun experience, both times. We can't wait to go back next year!
